Daily Report for R/V KILO MOANA August 2008


KM 08-14 Noon Report 1200(W) August 06, 2008 Noon Position is: 24-00N 158-00W Fuel on board: 54,519 gals Fuel Consumed (24 hrs): 2030 gals

Potable water on board: 7912 gals Weather: wind 085 @ 17-20 kts, combined sea & swell ESE’ly @ 06-07 ft, barometer 1019.4 steady, temp 25C, mostly cloudy

Continuing operations on KM 08-14, Kolber-CMORE Cruise, having conducted 7 CTD casts and deployed the SID, Nitrogen/Gas, and Sediment Trap arrays since our last report. We appear to have found the area to study that we have been looking for! All going well!

Continuing operations on KM 08-14, Kolber-CMORE Cruise, having conducted 9 CTD casts since our last report (also I had forgotten to report that we deployed 1 Seaglider 03 August). All going well!

Continuing operations on KM 08-14, Kolber-CMORE Cruise, having conducted 6 CTD casts, 2 Winch-Pump evolutions, 1 AC9 cast, and retrieved the SID and Sediment Trap arrays since our last report. All going well!

Continuing operations on KM 08-14, Kolber-CMORE Cruise, having conducted 5 CTD casts, conducted 3 net tows, and retrieved the Nitrogen/Gas array since our last report. We found a substantial bloom yesterday (see pics below)! All going well!

Potable water on board: 8130 gals Weather: wind 110 @ 07 kts, combined sea & swell E’ly @ 04 ft, barometer 1016.9 steady, temp 25C, partly cloudy

KM 08-14, Kolber-CMORE Cruise, working at our second Station, having conducted 7 CTD casts overnight, and conducted 1 net tow and deployed the Nitrogen/Gas array, the SID (submersible incubation device) array, and the Sediment Trap array this morning. We will be departing this Station shortly for our third Station (22-18N 156-18W), ETA 1345 this afternoon. All going well!
